IHAWU DESIGN
Ihawu Design is inspired by the shield. Celebrated by many Africans, the shield serves as a common thread amongst all descendants of the Nguni tribe. The shield was used as the only form of protective armor for us, it symbolises protection of our heritage and culture that needs to be passed from one generation to the next. The original Ihawu was made up of raw cattle hide which also adds to the significance of the use of this symbolism on a blanket. The blanket has a black and white shield as a reference to the sanga Nguni cattle and also to the unity of different races in Africa. There is also a solid colored strip on the blanket which comes in a variant of colored inspired by some colors on the south African flag.
